The Beast In The East

Based at the Epping Ongar Railway in North Weald, Essex, 45132 started life in 1961 as D22. It was the last of the 45/1 class to lose the split-box nose ends, and was withdrawn from service in 1987.

Originally entering preservation at the Mid Hants Railway, 'The Beast' moved to North Weald in 2014 whilst part way through an extensive overhaul. This work is still ongoing, and we hope that some day soon we will once again see 45132 hauling trains, tackling the steep gradients of Essex.
